Eric D. Strauss, M.D.
Eric D. Strauss, M.D. joined the Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation Center of New Jersey in 1988. He has enhanced the center with his special interests in sports injuries and wrist arthroscopy.Dr. Strauss received a B.A. degree from Stanford University, and he attended medical school at the New York University School of Medicine. He performed his surgical internship/residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Rutgers Medical School. He obtained his Hand Surgery Fellowship at the Joseph H. Boyes Foundation in Los Angeles. Dr. Strauss is currently Chief of the Hand Section in the Department of Surgery for Virtua Health Systems.
He has published and presented at meetings. He is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
Dr. Strauss is on the medical staff of the Virtua Hospital System and the Summit Surgical Center.

Allen Berkowitz, MD
Allen R. Berkowitz, M. D. has been with the Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation Center of New Jersey since 1992 bringing his expertise in trauma including difficult fractures of the hand and wrist, complex soft tissue injuries and reconstruction of the injured hand and wrist.Dr. Berkowitz attended the University of Rochester earning his B.A. magna cum laude in Biology and he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He was admitted to the University of Rochester School of Medicine under the Rochester Plan during his sophomore year at the university where he received his M.D. degree. He began his post-graduate training as an intern and resident in general surgery and continued with his orthopaedic surgery residency at the New York University-Bellevue Medical Center. He completed his hand surgery fellowship at the Raymond M. Curtis Hand Center in Baltimore, Maryland, presently known as The Curtis National Center.
He has published articles and abstracts. He has delivered annual meeting presentations of the ASSH and AAOS and internationally.
Dr. Berkowitz is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a member of the American Medical Association. He is also a member of the Philadelphia Hand Society, Philadelphia, Orthopedic Society and the New Millennium Hand Club.
He is on the medical staff of the Virtua Health System and the Summit Surgical Center.
Frederick Ballet, MD
Frederick L. Ballet, M.D. is the founding physician of the Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation Center of New Jersey. His efforts have shaped the hand center into an all inclusive - surgeons, physiatrist, anesthesiologists, therapists, ambulatory surgical suite - regional center for expert care of the upper extremity. His personal interests are in the treatment of disorders of the wrist and wrist reconstruction.Dr. Ballet received his B.S. cum laude from Brooklyn College and his M.D. degree from the New York Medical College. He was an intern/resident in general surgery at Long Island Jewish-Hillside Medical Center in New York.
He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the Hospital for Joint Diseases/Orthopaedic Institute in New York. He was awarded the H. Frauenthal Traveling Fellowship Scholarship, and received his hand surgery training at the Connecticut Combined Hand Surgery Fellowship.
He has held teaching appointments at the Cooper University Medical Center and the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Rutgers Medical School at Camden.
He has published articles, and presented at national and international meetings. He is an active member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand and fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.

Tom Stackhouse, MD
Thomas G. Stackhouse, M.D. has been with the Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation Center of New Jersey since 1985 just two years after it's inception. Dr. Stackhouse graduated from Muhlenberg College in 1975 with a B.S. cum laude in Natural Science. He graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons, Columbia University in 1979 with his M.D. His first two years of surgical training were conducted at the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His orthopaedic residency was at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. From 1984 to 1985 Dr. Stackhouse successfully completed a fellowship in Hand Surgery and Microsurgery at the Indiana Center for Surgery and Rehabilitation of the Hand and Upper Extremity.Dr. Stackhouse has an active interest in all aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of injuries of the upper extremity and rheumatoid disease. He has special interest in treating musicians with painful upper extremities, Dupuytren's Disease and complex wrist injuries.
He is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon holding the Certificate of Added Qualification in the Surgery of the Hand. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Medical Association. He is a member of the Performing Artists Medical Association. Dr. Stackhouse is on the medical staff of the Virtua Health System and the Summit Surgical Center.
Dr. Stackhouse sits on the Accreditation Committee of the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care and periodically conducts accreditation surveys on their behalf.
He is a volunteer pilot with Angel Flight East, a non-profit organization devoted to providing non-emergent air transportation for patients requiring medical care at distant centers. In May 2002, Dr. Stackhouse was voted a "Top Doc" by Philadelphia Magazine.
Andrew B. Sattel, MD F.A.C.S.
Andrew B. Sattel, M.D. joined the Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation Center of New Jersey in 2001. He was previously in practice with a general orthopaedic group, where he concentrated his practice to problems of the hand and upper extremity. In addition to his special interest in hand and wrist disorders, he also treats conditions related to the shoulder and elbow.Dr. Sattel received his B.A. degree from Dickinson College where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He obtained his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He completed his surgical internship at the Medical College of Pennsylvannia, and his orthopaedic surgery training at the Grand Rapids Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program. He completed a hand surgery fellowship at Blodgett Memorial Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and an additional fellowship with the Philadelphia Hand Center, at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital.
He has published articles, and has presented at orthopaedic and hand surgery specialty meetings. He is a member of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Sattel is on the medical staff of the Virtua Health System, Summit Surgical Center, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital of Burlington County and the Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.
Raymond Ragland III, MD
Raymond Ragland, III., M.D. joined the Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation Center of New Jersey in 2004. He has special interests in Distal Radius/Hand Trauma and Pediatric Hand Deformities.Dr. Ragland attended the University of Pennsylvania where he received a B.A. in Biology. He received his commission in the United States Navy in 1992, after receiving his M.D. from the University of Pittsburgh. His post-graduate training was done as an intern in general surgery at Bethesda Naval Hospital and he completed his orthopaedic residency at Howard University Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he was a House Officer in the Department of General and Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Ragland received his fellowship training in hand surgery at St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital (a University Hospital of Columbia University) in New York City.
Dr. Ragland is board certified. He is an active member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgery and the American Medical Association. He is on the medical staff of the Virtua Health System and Summit Surgical Center.
